Smithereens’ Jim Babjak On All Mixed Up 12-1-24

Jim Babjak is a founding member of New Jersey Hall of Fame band the Smithereens.

The Smithereens will be at the Carteret Performing Arts Center on Saturday December 7 with two special guest vocalists – both Marshall Crenshaw and Robin Wilson (of the Gin Blossoms) will be on stage.

In addition, Andy Burton will be joining the band on keyboards and Graham Maby will be on bass guitar.

Jim, along with fellow band members Dennis Diken and Mike Mesaros grew up in Carteret so this show marks a homecoming of sorts for Dennis and him.

The two Jims (Babjak and Monaghan) talked about the show, fax machines, and what’s ahead for the Smithereens this morning on All Mixed Up.

2025 is setting up to be an epic year for rock music with rumored new releases from Nine Inch Nails, Shinedown, Mammoth WVH, Finger Eleven, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Dream Theater, and more. I’m not kidding! Pretty epic, right?

With so much buzz about new music, I decided to focus on the early part of the year, and some of the releases I am looking forward to in the first quarter of 2025.

4 Out Of 5 On My List Are Bands Led By Females! 

I’m so inspired that my list includes so many heavy females in music. AND this list features new rockers and some who have been around for a while. The one common thread on this particular Top 5 is that all of these songs ROCK! Bangers, Face Melters, and power tunes that all go to 15!

    Canada’s Heavy Metal Progressive Newbies Spiritbox will release their second album “Tsunami Sea” on March 7th.
    Courtney LaPlante is an amazing front woman and vocalist. I have only seen them open for others and look forward to a full headlining Spiritbox tour!

  • 4. Lacuna Coil- Sleepless Empire

    Italian Metal Band Lacuna Coil will release their 10th record “Sleepless Empire” on March 7th. It’s their first since 2019 and features 11 NEW , HEAVY Hitters. It’s almost impossible to believe Christina Scabbia and the boys have been around for 30 years! They sound as fresh and HEAVY as they did in the 1990’s.

     

  • 5. Jinger- Duel

    Ukrainian metal freight train Jinger is led by Tatiana Shmayluk and will melt your face off.  Their 5th full length release “Duel” is out of February 7th and is bound to be a groundbreaker for the band.
