TC here- And The ladies are taking over! As you know from all the great new music you are hearing on DHA, the response to our Queens Of Noise Show and our WDHA Rock The Park bill, We have incredible female talent in every aspect of banging music! I was initially going to focus on 5 new bands that I love…but the list kept growing! What a great problem to have!

I decided to focus on bands that are relatively new, female fronted and represent different styles of rocking talent.
Some you may have heard of, others may be new to your ears, and all are fierce, fantastic females making KILLER noise! (So open your ears and let’s go!)

• New Years Day

  HURTS LIKE HELL

  Get ready to ROCK! Led by Ash Costello this California band has forged their own path since 2005 and are an energetic, heavy force to be reckoned with. NYD have 4 studio albums to their credit, and are hitting the road with Halestorm and just released a brand new track with a big chunky, heavy hook called “Hurts Like Hell”!

• Lilith Czar

  100 LITTLE DEATHS

  You may know her as Juliette Simms when she played The Warped Tour or with her band Automatic Loveletter OR her amazing reinvention Lilith Czar, but no matter how you discovered her, Lilith Czar is an artist that leaves it all onstage. Performance art, hard rock, melody and amazing songs are all part of her most recent release “Created From Filth and Dust”. If you saw her perform at WDHA’s Rock The Rockfest OR Rock The Park you can feel the experience of her performance!

• Dead Sara

  HEROES

  Emily Armstrong, Siouxsie Medley and Sean Friday are DEAD SARA and their most recent “Ain’t It Tragic” is a killer combination of rock, punk and raw energy. Their live shows are epic and they have covered Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box and Dave Grohl is a huge fan of the band… Pretty Impressive ….

• Samantha Fish

  FASTER

  Often labeled A Blues artist, Samatha Fish has a unique style that marries blues, rock, country, folk and man can she play guitar! She’s played with Buddy Guy, toured with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and dueted with Devon Allman on “Stop Dragging My Heart Around. With more than ten releases under her belt, and many prestigious awards to her name this lady is not only talented, but kicking in the doors in a genre that’s been all about the boys for quite some time!

• Spiritbox

  CIRCLE WITH ME

  I have to satisfy the Metal And and Spiritbox is just the band to do it! Out of Canada they are led by vocalist and front woman Courtney LaPlante (and also include her husband Mike Stringer and Zev Rose) , their dark sound combines Metalcore vibes with storytelling and gorgeous growls….One of my new faves…

• Dorothy

  LOVE MY DOROTHY! And while many of our WDHA listeners may know her, you MUST see this dynamic talent live. One of the greatest vocalists in rock today, Dorothy Martin will blow your doors off and her new release (the bands third)  “Gifts From the Holy Ghost” is their best yet. Heavy, emotional and drenched with passion, Dorothy is addicting!

• Eva Under Fire

  BLOW

  Her given name is Amanda Lyberg and her mission has been helping people through recovery and through MUSIC! Bam- Eva Under Fire was born-
  Hailing from Detroit Rock City- Amanda becomes Eva (Marie) and the band gets a record deal at the same time she becomes a licensed Clinical Psychologist! Talk about meant to be! The bands new release Love, Drugs and Misery and their tune BLOW (featuring Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills) is BANGIN and Eva is as cool as she looks in her videos as she appeared with me recently on Reconnect With Rockers and was AWESOME!

• Plush

  BETTER OFF ALONE

  I am a Plush fan girl. everyone knows it. Why? Because they ROCK! Their debut is slamming- Songs, incredible , musicianship off the charts. Plush vocalist Moriah Formica will blow your doors off as one of rocks premiere new screamers and there isn’t a note she doesn’t kill! Bella and Ashley are seasoned pros and I’m excited to see the band on their fall tour opening for Bush/Alice In Chains and Breaking Benjamin!

• The Warning

  CHOKE

  Three sisters, (Daniela – Dani, Paulina- Pau and Alejandra Ale)- who have been rocking since they are children, who SLAM Metallica live and have the stage presence of some of the great rock power trios we know and love – The Warning have blown my mind since I first saw them covering Metallica in 2014. Fast Forward to their most recent ERROR and their incredible live performances that are wowing a new generation of women to pick up an instrument and PLAY! Their fan base is loyal, so diverse and massive and what the term “Rockstar” is all about.

• Larkin Poe

  HOLY GHOST FIRE

  Americana Rock with a Nashville swing the Lovell sisters (Rebecca and Megan ) have been called the little sisters of The Allman Brothers for their organic harmony and bluesy style.  With seven albums under their umbrella and a bunch of EP’s, these ladies are primed from greatness. Starting out as backing vocalists for some of music’s biggest stars it is awesome to see THEIR star beginning to shine. I highly recommend grabbing a few of their releases and get ready to be wowed!

   

• (Bonus) Monster Props To Lzzy Hale, Taylor Momsen and Amy Lee for spending the the past 10-20 years paving the way!

  Selling out arenas, having the courage to put together female fronted bills and stacking up number one records – BIG props to the ladies who are continuing to blow up the argument that women aren’t as valuable as men in rock music.

• Nita Strauss

  OUR MOST DESPERATE HOUR

  Hurricane Nita (as she is called) is indeed a force of nature- She was inspired by Steve Vai, A member of The Iron Maidens and Alice Cooper’s axe master, Nita was the first instrumentalist to hit #1 on the rock charts with Dead Inside featuring David Draiman  and is breaking barriers everywhere!  Guitar lovers grab her catalog! As we await a full new record. #hurricanenita

• Soraia

  TIGHT LIPPED

  I was turned on to Soraia by Scotty B in 2020 and I have been a massive fan ever since.  A true ROCK band on Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Record Label – Led by the incredible vocal stylings of Zou Zou Mansour with Brianna Sig on drums this POWERHOUSE band is one of rock’s best kept secrets that I am letting out!! Zou Zou cannot be compared to anyone as she has a unique style all her own with gritty, emotional vocals that will knock you over. And Brianna is such a monster drummer! WOW!! Soraia is truly one of my favorite new bands of the past ten years. Their next release BLOOM is out 10/28.
