Arnold Schwarzenegger Says He ‘Would Make a Great President’
From “Governator” to… “Presidentenator?” It’s much harder to play off of one of Arnold Schwarzegger’s catchphrases. But the former California governor thinks he would make a great President. However, the 76-year-old former bodybuilder can’t legally run for the United States’ highest office. It is required for prospective candidates to be a natural-born citizen, and Schwarzenegger was born in Thal, Austria, in 1947. Despite that, he tells BBC in a new interview that he thinks he’d be a good fit for our country.
“I feel like I would make a great president,” he said, adding that “everything I’ve accomplished was because of America.” When Schwarzenegger moved to America at 19 years old in the late 60s, he was chasing his dream of becoming a world-famous bodybuilder. “America gave me so many opportunities. The American people were so embracive, and they just received me with open arms. There was no one there that stopped me from my success. So the only thing that I can’t do, which is run for president. I’m not going to complain about that,” he continued. He admits that it would be “a little bit selfish if I go out and try to change the law.” He lists the Constitution and immigration reform to make the changes necessary to make it happen.
As for discussing next year’s possible Presidential race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, Schwarzenegger is not excited about it. Besides both Biden and Trump having already served presidential terms, Schwarzenegger pointed out that they’re perhaps too old for the job. Biden is 80, while Trump is 77. “I just hope that America finds some really young blood,” he says. “Because to me, it is a little bit odd that we are having a battle between people today in the late seventies and early eighties rather than people that in the forties and fifties or maybe even younger and have them have a chance at this great, great job.”
The actor recently published a self-help book titled: Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life, which is out now.
