Mick Foley wasn't just one of many famous faces at the wedding of guitarist Nita Strauss and drummer Josh Villalta over the weekend. He actually officiated the rock and roll wedding!
The WWE Hall of Famer shared a series of photos from the wedding on Instagram and called the nuptials "a wedding to remember." He noted in the post's caption, "Here’s a line of dialogue I did not have on my bingo card: 'Now, doing a reading from 1st Corinthians…Alice and Sheryl Cooper,'"
Foley detailed, "On Saturday night, I was given the great honor of officiating the wedding of two dear friends - @thejoshv and @hurricanenita, who set the bar very high for all weddings to come. Not only was the ceremony held in Hollywood’s beautiful Roosevelt Hotel, but the reception featured amazing musical numbers from @alicecooper himself, with blistering solos from Nita in her wedding dress, along with killer performances from @disturbed frontman @davidmdraiman with bassist @johnmoyerbass, @DeadlandsBand vocalist @kaseykarlsen, @ddlovato band members @leannebowesbass & @brittanynicolebowman - and a host of other incredibly talented musicians."
More Details About The Nita Strauss-Josh Villalta Wedding
People had exclusive coverage of the Strauss-Villalta wedding, which featured 120 guests. Strauss said they picked The Hollywood Roosevelt in Los Angeles for the wedding since it was both the ideal location for most of their guest and the city where the newlyweds "met and fell in love."
The overall theme of the wedding was described as "Haute Dracula" and was a mix of romantic and goth-chic. Strauss looked stunning in a Maggie Sottero gown that featured gorgeous beaded lace. People noted Strauss wore white Valentino rocksud flats during the ceremony and changed into customized white Air Force Ones for the reception.
After they were officially married, Strauss and Villalta popped by the Rainbow Bar and Grille and the Whiskey a Go Go for some photos. As Villalta noted on Instagram, he and Strauss met at the Rainbow, and he proposed at Whiskey. As if things couldn't be more rock and roll perfection, their first dance as a married couple was to Extreme's iconic power ballad "More Than Words."
Strauss told People, "Josh has said many times over the last nine years, 'We’ve been together so long, we’re already married.' And I’ve been the one saying, 'No, we have to do the thing!'"
So, congrats to Nita and Josh for finally doing the thing! May your rock and roll marriage last for years and years like the ones listed below.
Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo got married on February 20, 1982. They remain one of the longest-lasting marriages in classic rock. They're also among the most successful.
Benatar and Giraldo were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the 2022 induction class. Interestingly, Benatar was asked in a 2021 interview with CBS Sunday Morning whether it bothered her to not be in the Rock Hall. She said then that it didn't and noted, "Listen, when you win things, it's really fun. But the point is, does this validate, not validate what we've done? No."
Together, they've sold over 35 million albums worldwide. Benatar has also won countless honors, including four Grammy Awards. The husband and wife pairing even collaborated on a stage musical called Invincible -- The Musical. As previously reported, Invincible -- The Musical is a new reworking of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The production features versions of many of the songs Benatar and Giraldo have written and performed together for over 40 years.
In a September 2013 interview with the Arizona Republic, Benatar fondly looked back on meeting Giraldo. She said the first song they recorded together was the hit "Heartbreaker." Benatar said she and Giraldo clicked instantly. Even though there was a definite attraction from the beginning, Benatar was still married, and Giraldo was also in a relationship.
" ... We made [1979's 'In the Heat of the Night'] not romantically involved, which was a challenge," said Benatar. "Which is what made it so much fun, and I think you can hear all that on that record."
Needless to say, Benatar and Giraldo have more than defied the odds against them. However, Benatar and Giraldo are far from the only music marriage that has gone the distance. In honor of Benatar and Giraldo's anniversary, here are some of classic rock's other longest-lasting marriages.
