New Study: Free Pizza At Work Makes You More Productive
We have all been there! You are at work and your boss calls a meeting to announce that there will be a pizza party later in the work week.
Not only will you get to taste a delicious slice, but the thought of an upcoming pizza party could lead you to being more productive at work. In a new scientific study, researchers found that if bosses gave their employees free pizza or compliments that they would work harder.

The study comes from psychologist Dan Ariely and was published in his book Payoff: The Hidden Logic That Shapes Our Motivations. His study was conducted by looking at a group of workers in a technology company in Israel. Each person in the study were sent other of three messages. New York Magazine’s The Cut reports that they messages all promised a certain incentive for that individual if they were to accomplish work-related goals.
The goals included: a $30 bonus, pizza, or a compliment from their boss by text massage. There was also a control group added to this study who were not promised an incentive. Since the people working at this technology people assembled computer chips, it was east to assess their work.

By the end of the first day, the group that was promised pizza increased their productivity by 6.7 percent. Those who were told they would receive a compliment by their boss increased by 6.6 percent. Workers who were told they would receive a bonus of $30 only increased by 4.9 percent. All of these numbers were compared to the control group. During the rest of the week, those who were promised cash had declined in numbers while those who were promised the other two steadied out in their percentage.
