Great Mother’s Day Rock Songs, Part 2: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
Mother’s Day is on Sunday, and I wanted to take a look at Great Mother’s Day Rock Songs – Part 2. Sure, Moms might not be the biggest lyrical theme in all of rock and roll, but some really cool tunes involve Moms in one way or another. Let’s take a look in this article at one of those songs that has a theme dealing with Mom in its lyrics.
How About Bohemian Rhapsody?
Queen has a slew of different topics they sing about in their songs. I mean you name it – from fantasy to love, to bicycle races. They don’t shy away from any topic. If you’re wondering what song I could possibly be talking about in this article. How about Bohemian Rhapsody? While it might not be a virtual greeting card for Mom signed with love, the main character’s mother is clearly part of the emotion here.
When the song really kicks in, the lyrics revolve around a man telling his Mom about a crime he had just committed. He looks to Mom to openly confess his sin and also begs her to forgive him. It’s a them we can all identify with. While not all of us have killed a man, we know what it’s like to be open honest, and vulnerable as we come clean to Mom.
This is just a classic, legendary tune in and of itself. Between the amazing playing and the tremendous Freddie Mercury vocals, it’s a powerhouse of a tune. And yes, it also has that operatic breakdown in the middle that we all love. Heck, it was even given a second life in the Wayne’s World film!
This is not your typical Mother’s Day song, but it definitely shows off how important the mother/son relationship is! Take a listen below!
