Yesterday I wrote an article on 5 terrific places to get a Pork Roll, Egg, And Cheese sandwich in Morris County. A simple list that mentioned places I think have tasty sandwiches. When I posted a link to the story on our DHA Facebook page, I got some flack. Some listeners were very upset that I didn’t call it Taylor Ham. But here’s why it doesn’t matter if you call it Taylor Ham or Pork Roll.
First of all, it’s just delicious meat. There’s no way around that. You can call it whatever the hell you want. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s just a likable and enjoyable product.
I don’t want to bring up the history of the name and get into all the specifics of the debate we have here in Jersey, because I feel like that’s been beaten to death. But here’s something to think about: whether you live in Southern Jersey near the shore or Northern New Jersey close to the mountains, does it really matter if you refer to it the same way as many people do where you’re from?

Look, you can step into a diner in South Jersey, and on the menu, it could read Taylor Ham. Are they wrong? Is that a huge mistake because nobody in their area calls it that? No. It couldn’t matter less. As long as you can get the waiter to tell the cook to bring you that greasy, tasty, meat sandwich, who cares what you have to call it?
And let’s be honest. Are you losing any sleep over whether or not someone calls it Pork Roll or Taylor Ham? You can’t be. It’s just not that important. As I said, whatever it takes to get that delicious meat so I can toss it down my gullet is all that matters. I love Taylor Ham and Pork Roll!
5 Terrific Morris County Spots For A Pork Roll, Egg And Cheese Sandwich
I’ve talked about some places to get good bagels and even great places to start the day with breakfast, but how about today we cover Pork Roll? Or is it, Taylor Ham? LOL! I’m not trying to get that debate started, so why not take a look at 5 Terrific Morris County Spots for a Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese sandwich?
It’s a debate that’s been around for a while – some call it pork roll and some call it Taylor ham. But for the sake of this article, we’re going to stick to Pork Roll. Why? Because that’s how my mom introduced it to my taste buds and how I’ve referred to it ever since.
It’s delicious meat that when heated up is out of this world. As if it can’t get any better you put egg on there and melt some cheese and you’ve got a real work of art. The flavor combinations play off each other so well. Then again what doesn’t get better when you melt cheese on it? Maybe cereal? But I’d try it if asked to. Ok, I digress.
This is a comfort sandwich whether served on a roll or a bagel. It just hits the right spot on a Sunday morning as you’re lounging at home. And when it’s done with all of the freshest ingredients made-to-order. It’s hard to beat.
Some people add ketchup salty, and pepper. I used to be one of them. That is, until I decided to just let myself enjoy and focus on the flavor of the meat. Heck, it’s what makes this sandwich, so why cover it up. Although, I’m not going to knock you if you cover it in ketchup.
There are so many great spots all around Jersey that serve up a version of this fantastic “Sammy” and you can’t usually go wrong. In this post, however, let’s focus on 5 terrific Morris County spots for a Pork Roll, Egg, And Cheese, Sandwich.
Mike is all about having fun each afternoon. He brings you concert tickets, some fun trivia, and of course the best bands. Other interests outside of being at WDHA are drums, movies, and my family. Also, like most radio personalities, he loves live music. There's nothing like a live show to hype him up! His all-time favorite band is Metallica. But according to him, the list of others is pretty lengthy.
