Born November 15th, 1974 in Alberta, Canada, Chad Kroeger is the lead singer and guitarist of the band Nickelback. Along with his brother Mike and cousin Brandon, as well as Ryan Peake, Chad was in a grunge cover band called Village Idiot in the early 1990’s. From there, in 1995, the four members of Village Idiot moved into the realm of original music as Nickelback. While this lineup only lasted for the band’s first studio album Curb (1996), most of the band’s lineup has stayed intact, as Brandon Kroeger, and the two following drummers, are the only members who have left the band. Nickelback has released a total of 10 studio albums, half of which are certified platinum by the RIAA including 2001’s Silver Side Up which includes the quadruple platinum single “How You Remind Me”. The band’s crowning achievement is the certified diamond album All The Right Reasons (2005), which contains the double platinum single “Photograph” as well as the mega-hit “Rockstar”.
Outside of Nickelback, Chad Kroeger also started the band The Suits XL in 2001. While this group didn’t reach the mega-stardom of Nickelback, the band did moderately well, having only released one full album in 2006. In 2002, he co-founded the Vancouver-based 604 Records, which The Suits XL were signed to, but also represented acts such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianas Trench, Theory of a Deadman, and Tommy Lee. Other than working sparingly on his other band as well as on the label, Chad Kroeger has done a bunch of producing, writing, and recording work for various other bands and projects. The biggest of note was performing the song “Hero” for the movie Spider-Man in 2002 alongside Saliva’s Josey Scott, Theory of a Deadman’s Tyler Connolly, and Our Lady Peace’s Jeremy Taggart.
