With Pantera announcing more tour dates, metal fans can rejoice knowing that they’ll be able to hear some of the best heavy classics live. For us in Jersey, there is a date at the Garden – February 22nd, 2024 at Madison Square Garden to be exact. I’m sure for many Pantera fans the songs they want to hear vary, but I thought I’d list the top 5 songs Pantera Should Absolutely Do Live At Their Upcoming MSG Show In February!

But after all this time…..why do we still want to see Phil, Rex, and fill-ins Charlie and Zakk play this music live? What makes it so special?
Pantera’s popularity can be attributed to their pioneering influence on the metal genre, specifically with the development of groove metal. The band’s distinctive sound, characterized by powerful riffs, aggressive vocals, and complex rhythms, set them apart during the 1990s metal scene. Albums like “Vulgar Display of Power” and “Far Beyond Driven” showcased their musical evolution and became blueprints for heavy metal excellence. Pantera’s energetic and intense live performances solidified their reputation, leaving fans in awe and energized by their aggressive music.

The tragic death of guitarist Dimebag Darrell in 2004 added an emotional layer to their legacy, elevating the band’s status. And then of course, the loss of Dime’s brother and drummer Vinnie really hit home for many fans, since that meant you most likely would never see this music live again. Their music, addressing themes of personal struggle and class warfare, continues to resonate across generations, attesting to the timeless quality of Pantera’s influential and culturally significant contribution to the world of heavy metal.

There are so many songs that can make their live shows something special, but here’s a list of the top 5 songs I think you need to see Pantera play live. Their powerful, energetic, and simply awesome!

  • COWBOYS FROM HELL

The Title track to a superb metal album. This one has a riff that fires you up and could be an awesome way to open the show…..they are in fact the Cowboys From Hell!

  • BECOMING

This one has a riff with double bass drumming that goes along with it so tightly, even non-musicians could appreciate it.  It’s heavy, adrenaline pumping and epic sounding!

  • SHEDDING SKIN

That opening riff is so iconic and such a great way to set this song up.  Plus the powerful vocals on the chorus are infectious and you can’t help but sing-along!

  • REGULAR PEOPLE (CONCEIT)

Again, the tightness of Vinnie Paul on drums and Dimebag on guitar is showcased here.  Plus, Phil sounds angry!  Which makes for a good Pantera song. LOL

  • THE GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL

How Cool would it be for Phil to come out and start the show off with that absolutely gut-wrenching scream?  A brutal chorus and tail that whips you into a frenzy.  So goooooooood!
