The world is still aching in the loss of Chris Cornell after his death in 2017.
Over the weekend, not one, but two vocalists that have shaped Active Rock as we know it paid tribute to the singer, starting with Serj Tankian with Prophets of Rage, and rounding out with Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour.
Prophets of Rage was performing in Auckland, New Zealand when Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk wanted to pay tribute to their fallen friend, and they invited the frontman from System of a Down to join them with the vocals. After the performance went viral, Vicky Cornell, Chris’s Widow, wrote a touching message on Twitter to Tankian and the band, sharing that she felt he was with them on stage that night.
The video can be seen below, in which Serj sings along with the crowd in honor of Chris.
Corey Taylor of Stone Sour and Slipknot took a moment this weekend to pay tribute in his home, playing Audioslave’s 2002 track “Getaway Car” on his piano, with the caption “A little tribute to a sorely missed artist. #Cornell.”
It’s safe to say the world still misses you something fierce, Chris.
