FFDP Release New Cover of “Blue On Black” ft. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brantley Gilbert, Brian May
If you thought Five Finger Death Punch‘s first rendition of their cover of “Blue on Black” was great, wait until you hear this new version featuring Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brantley Gilbert and Brian May.
The new version can be heard below and is available through multiple platforms here. Proceeds from the track will go to The Gary Sinise Foundation, which benefits first responders.
Per Billboard, this version of “Blue on Black” came together rather organically, with Shepherd – who wrote and recorded the original – giving his approval of FFDP’s cover. This led to both parties wanting to record this version together, a project Gilbert heard about when he was working on a different project but in the same studio space. May’s contribution of a killer solo came to be through some mutual contacts.
Getting the iconic guitarist on the track is a huge get and is something FFDP guitarist Zoltan Bathory was excited about telling Billboard, “When (May’s) solo came in everyone just stopped and went, ‘That’s Brian May!’ He has such a distinctive tone. You know it can only be him.”
