Laura Gassner Otting likes to challenge people. As an author and public speaker, Laura inspires people to push past the doubt and indecision that keep great ideas in limbo by helping them think bigger and accept greater challenges that reach beyond their current, limited scope of belief. It’s not an accident that her latest book, Limitless – How To Ignore Everybody, Carve Your Own Path & Live Your Best Life, was a Washington Post bestseller.
Jim and Laura talk about how to become limitless in your life, especially if that one voice holding you back happens to be your own. Plus she has a great story about her Dave Grohl fantasy.
Brett Newski has packed a lot of experience into the first 35 years of his life. A former Division III college basketball players, he turned his talent into other directions, becoming a singer-songwriter, author, and podcaster.
One of the things that Brett discovered in his life’s journey is that just like your heart attacks you, your brain can attack you too. Brett (who has played alongside the Pixies, Violent Femmes, Courtney Barnett, Manchester Orchestra, Better Than Ezra and more) suffers from anxiety and depression and recently released an illustrated book around breaking the stigma through humor and light sketch comedy with, It’s Hard to be a Person: Defeating Anxiety, Surviving the World, and Having More Fun, accompanied by a soundtrack to the book featuring 8 original songs.
Jim and Brett talked about his music and book, traveling to places such as Vietnam to perform and record, and how his humorous approach to his anxiety attacks has helped him cope.

NorthStar Pet Rescue is New Jersey volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) all breed animal rescue, focused on saving at-risk dogs from overcrowded animal shelters. WDHA has partnered with them each year for Terrie Carr’s annual Ultimate Rock Dog Contest calendars. Tammy Probst-Smith is the President and founder of NorthStar Pet Rescue. Tray McCauley is a founding volunteer with NorthStar and has been involved in every aspect of the day to day operations of the rescue since it’s inception. Tammy and Tray talk with Jim Monaghan about NorthStar’s mission and some local pet events happening in the weeks to come.
Speaking of NorthStar, that where this week’s Rock N’ Ruffdog Trinity is from. Trinity is a two-year old border collie mix who was rescued from Texas and is waiting for someone to bring this amazing pup home. Trinity loves going for walks and binge watching TV!
