We have a ton of Van Halen fans here at DHA and throughout New Jersey. Many of us grew up on Van Halen. Whether you prefer DLR or Sammy on vocals doesn’t necessarily matter. The music was always just so good and that’s what counts. Those guys knew how to play and move you. Recently I asked the question to name some favorite Sammy Hagar VH era tunes. So here we go…..New Jersey’s Top 5 Van Halen Songs With Sammy Hagar.

During First Call Last Call recently I wanted to find out listeners’ favorite tunes with Sammy in Van Halen. I play a themed set of tunes at 5 pm after I post the Question of The Day to the DHA Facebook page at about 4.

I got some awesome responses. Sure, David Lee Roth and Sammy had different styles. They even had different lyrical styles and overall mood in the songs. Eddie and the band always sounded tight. But Dave and Sammy really created 2 separate bands in a way. But again, it doesn’t matter, because the killer songwriting was always there.

Sammy brought a soul with him and years of experience. His days in Montrose served him well and his solo material was always rocking. He knew especially how to work with Eddie and the band in crafting a love song. I think Dave leaned a bit more on, well…..making love.

Both of them had awesome moments and are icons in their own right. However, since we’re focused on Sammy today, let’s really soak up those powerful and soulful-sounding vocals from the Red Rocker. He really brought it in his delivery. It is hard to mimic and hard to even jokingly sing along with those Van Halen tunes because he sang them so well. But we all try! LOL.

Here are New Jersey’s Top 5 Van Halen Songs With Sammy Hagar

  • HUMANS BEING

That dark opening riff. That catchy and melodic chorus. It’s almost like 2 sides of the coin!

  • FINISH WHAT YA STARTED

Sammy brings that soul in truckloads on this track.  You can almost hear him plead as he sings.  It’s awesome!

  • LOVE WALKS IN

An emotional one that still rocks.  Hagar blends the line of being tough and rockin but also sounding vulnerable.

  • DON'T TELL ME WHAT LOVE CAN DO

We miss you Eddie.  That guitar tone is unreal.  Hagar sounds fed up with love and you can hear the agony in his voice!

  • POUNDCAKE

A great performance from Sammy.  You want to sing with him.  It’s just a little hard. But we all try anyway!
