Jim Monaghan talks with Mark Kaline about his dad’s MLB memorabilia collection.
Al Kaline was one of the most feared sluggers in Major League Baseball during his 22 year career.
With his passing in 2020, his family has decided to put the Al Kaline Collection featuring more than 400 memorabilia pieces from the Detroit Tigers first-ballot Hall of Famer up for auction through Heritage Auctions November 18-20.
It’s quite the collection, too – from Mr. Tiger’s High School yearbooks & trophies to the World Series Championship Trophy presented to the ’68 team in 2008; to hundreds of baseballs and bats signed by the likes of fellow-Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron & Derek Jeter, just to name a half dozen. There are four presidential autographed baseballs by Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford & George W. Bush. That’s not to mention a bevy of the 18-time All-Star’s career-hit baseballs, and game-used jerseys and bats.
WDHA’s Jim Monaghan spoke with the late Al Kaline’s son Mark Kaline about some of the items up for auction and some memories of one of baseball’s most revered players.
