Students Change Hunger Week – Evelyn Chiu From CFBNJ Interview
The Community Foodbank of New Jersey does so much. It’s always nice when someone on their staff checks in. It’s Students Change Hunger Week- Evelyn Chiu From CFGNJ Interview was a lot of fun. She made so many great points and explained a lot of how we can all get involved to help the food bank and ultimately our neighbors in need!
In New Jersey, you might be shocked to hear that Nearly 1 million people in the state are food insecure which is about 1 in 9. That includes over 260,000 children or 1 in 8. Those are some staggering statistics and it’s scary to think about. We feel for those who might go to bed hungry. That’s a terrible thing to have happened.
So what can you do? Well first, Students Change hunger is a great program. Students Change Hunger is a friendly statewide food and fund drive competition for New Jersey schools, from preschool through college. Schools of all sizes across the state can participate. Schools compete to raise the most food and funds to help neighbors in need in our state.
I also speak to Evelyn about NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS. There are 3 facets of this initiative that you can be a part of and all of them can do so much good. Not to mention, there’s also Check Out Hunger. IF you’re not familiar with this, basically it runs from October through January at most major supermarkets and convenience stores, including Foodtown, Wegmans, QuickChek, PriceRite, ShopRite, The Fresh Grocer, and Wawa. By adding a simple donation slip at checkout, shoppers can easily make a gift of $1, $3 or $5. It’s one of the most convenient ways for consumers to help feed hungry families in their communities. 100% of the proceeds go to the FoodBank.
