Cheech Marin Wants To Share Your Stash Here In NJ
New Jersey’s first BYOC (Bring Your Own Cannabis) convention is back. Started in 2022 after cannabis was legalized and finally made accessible on a recreational level here in New Jersey, the 420 Expo is a celebration of all things green and dank. This year, taking place between September 29th and October 1st at the New Jersey Convention & Exposition Center in Edison, there will be over 100 vendors, as well as a number of other reasons to hang out with some buds.
Among the celebrity guests will be actor/comedian Cheech Marin who joined Jim Monaghan on the WDHA Morning Jolt. It’s only fitting Cheech joins us this morning for “How F’d Up Were You” here on WDHA.
JIM MONAGHAN – The 420 Expo returns here to New Jersey at the NJ Expo Center in Edison, September 29 through October 1. And my guest this morning, one of the patron saints of cannabis, if you will, Cheech Marin. Welcome to WDHA.
CHEECH MARIN – Hey, thank you very much. It’s nice to be on the air. Hello, people of New Jersey.
JM – So it is a BYOC, as in bring you r own cannabis. So let me ask you, what are you bringing?
CM – I’m sure somebody will bring something and offer it to me. I don’t know. I have to peruse my selection here and bring only the best to New Jersey.
JM – I always heard that David Crosby had the best pot.
CM – He could have. I think that Tommy and I have the best pot, but this is many years later.
JM – Yes, many years later indeed. More than 100 vendors, live music, lots of expos, and of course, food trucks for when the munchies hit. Now, what are you most looking forward to coming up?
CM – Meeting the people. It’s kind of the trade off for not being on the road, because we quit being on the road doing concerts, and I miss meeting people in every different state. So that’s my chance to interact with them and get free dope laughs).
JM – Cheech Marin with us here at 105.5 WDHA, the 420 Expo coming back to the Expo Center in Edison, September 29 through October 1.
What’s the craziest thing you ever did when you were high?
CM – When I was high? Whoa. Forgot where I was. You know, very early in the thing, people would come up to us with all kinds of things, and I always, finally I came up with this solution. You have to consider the source. Look at who’s offering to you and say, guy or girl, trustworthy or not, it’s usually easy to tell.
JM – All right, by the same token, what’s the craziest thing you’ve done sober?
CM – Sober, sober.
JM – Aside from interviews?
CM – Aside from interviews. Bringing my own weed to the New Jersey convention. I’ll be there on Friday and Saturday, so be sure to be there when I’m there.
JM – Okay. And we should point out that while smoking is allowed there, there are some areas where it is not – smoking nor vaping. So listeners can get all the details on our website – wdhafm.com as well as the event’s website 420 expo.com. So you mentioned you’re not doing as much touring these days. What are you up to?
CM – Oh, God, I got so many things going. Tommy and I, our weed business is booming right now. It’s doing very well after a lot of years of hard work. It doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s taking off pretty well right now. And I have a mezcal line that I’ve been promoting – Tres Papalote. And I have an art museum that we’ve opened up in Riverside, California. It consists of my Chicano art collection that now belongs to the city of Riverside in California.
JM – I know that you and Tommy are also doing something called the Dreamz Dispensary in New Mexico tell our listeners about that, Cheech.
CM – I think it’s I’m not exactly sure what it is because I haven’t read that far on the schedule yet. But it is in New Mexico and it’s usually probably a makeup for some dispensary we missed during COVID and we couldn’t get there. So we’re coming back to say hi to people out New Mexico. I was just there making a movie, so I love New Mexico.
JM – I like your acting, by the way. You’re very good. You’re very good.
CM – You may live.
JM – I was a huge fan of the golf movie you did with Kevin Costner, by the way.
CM – That was a good a I just made a basketball movie with Woody Harrelson. It was just a year ago called Champions. And it’s out there. So if you ever get on an airplane, look for it.
JM – Will do. The 420 expo coming to the NJ Expo Center in Edison September 29 through October 1. Cheech Marin will be there on Friday and Saturday. You can win tickets, by the way, on our website wdhafm.com and get all the details on the Expo at their website, which is 420 – the number is 420 – 420expo.com. Cheech, thanks so much for joining us this morning. Have great time at the convention.
CM – Thank you. Maybe we’ll see you there. Maybe you’ll be the guy. Thank you.
