WDHA’s 2-Minute Drill – Is This Bill Belichick’s Last Game As Patriots Coach
In years past, a late-season Jets-Patriots game would be a big deal. This year? Both teams are limping to the finish line and this could be Bill Belichick’s last game as the head coach of New England.
Jim Monaghan and Chris Swendeman talk about this and more on this morning’s Two-Minute Drill.
JIM MONAGHAN – Two-Minute Drill time Friday morning here at 105.5 WDHA on the Morning Jolt. Jim Monaghan, Chris Swendeman, as usual. Swendeman, we’ve got breaking Major League Baseball news. The Mets finally made a deal!
CHRIS SWENDEMAN – Oh, wait, it’s Harrison Bader. One year, 10 million. He was with the Yankees, and traded away to Cincinnati. Now he’s with your New York Mets. And I say “your New York Mets” because he always wanted to be a Yankee. So I don’t know how this plays out for everybody.
JM – Good defensive player. I don’t think his bat is going to do a whole lot in Queens.
CS – He’s going to look great on their IL list.
JM – And of course, the big game Sunday. The Jets email says it’s a big “divisional showdown.” In Foxborough. It’s the Jets and it’s the Patriots. And it could be one of the worst games of the season.
CS – Well, if it’s anything like the first game they played, remember, in that rain-soaked disaster back in the fall, this is going to be bad. But I’m telling you, Jim, if this is Belichick’s last game in Foxborough and it’s against the Jets, he is going to throw everything in the kitchen sink at the Jets to try to win this game because his ego won’t let him lose.
JM – Well, but he’s got Zappe at quarterback. I mean, he’s going to need more than Zappe and the kitchen sink and anything else he can find.
CS – It’s not his normal New England teams, but somehow Belichick finds a way to beat the Jets, it’s something in his DNA. He has to beat that team. He does not like them. He’s made it very clear he doesn’t like them. And I think if this is how he goes out, he wants to go out on top.
JM – Gut feeling – is Belichick done in New England or does he come back?
CS – I think he’s done. I think his time is done in New England and he’s going to take one of these coaching jobs that will surely open up around the NFL.
JM – Oh, definitely. And of course, with the other New York team, you’ve got Tommy…what did you call him last week?
CS – I called him, while you were gone, I was on the air and the news broke that Tyrod Taylor was going to start. I said maybe he should have copyrighted, started slow and copyrighted “Tommy Nuggets.”
JM – Tommy Nuggets, Tommy Cutlets, whatever. It’s the Giants taking on the Eagles and I think that game is going to be a blowout.
CS – The Eagles are not happy. The fan base is not happy, and they need a win. They need a win big time. And I think the Giants are going to be the recipients of some hurting on Sunday.
JM – And that’s the Two-Minute Drill Friday morning here on 105.5 WDHA. Thanks, Swendeman. We’ll talk next week.
CS – You got it, Jim. Enjoy the games.
