A Truly Successful Pack-A-Thon With CFBNJ

This past Friday, I was able to take part in The Community Food Bank Of New Jersey’s 24-Hour Pack-A-Thon.  Well, I should say that I broadcasted my shift live from the site in Hillside NJ.  And what a time we had. It was A Truly Successful Pack-A-Thon with CFBNJ!

Terrie Carr kicked off the marathon live broadcast and interviewed 3 different members of the Community Foodbank of New Jersey.  Thanks to Bill, our always-on-point engineer, things sounded great. And in speaking with TC as I got there, what really stood out was the efficiency and well-oiled machine that the Pack-A-Thon is.

It was so great to see the shifts of volunteers all coming in with a smile on their faces, knowing that they were there to do some good.  And help out those who are food insecure.  It really was impressive to watch.  Terrie, Scotty B, and I were all there to do our shows and broadcast live.  We provided music for the volunteers, many of whom asked if we could crank it up so they could rock out a bit!  But we were also there to help spread awareness.  Not to those already there to volunteer, but to our listening audience.

Last year, the Community Food Bank of New Jersey packed hundreds of boxes and they were looking to beat last year’s record.  All we could do was mention that info on the radio and ask for people to sign up to volunteer or donate money at the CFBNJ website.

My Experience with the Pack-A-Thon With CFBNJ

I have to say, that personally, I was moved and excited by seeing these volunteers working their butts off to pack these boxes quickly and efficiently.  When you think of seniors who are food insecure, kids who don’t get a school lunch on the weekend, or just a family who is struggling in general, it’s wonderful to know 2 things:

It’s inspiring to watch and I want to be a part of it next year, by signing up for a shift to actually pack some boxes.

And as for what they accomplished?  How about this?

The 3rd Annual 24-Hour Pack-a-Thon provided a total of 165,873 meals for New Jersey neighbors in need! They packed nearly 147,000 pounds of food and raised over $14,000.

    That is truly amazing!!!!
