Great Mother’s Day Rock Songs, Part Five: Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Well, this is it. Mother’s Day is just two days away and I hope you have something nice planned for Mom! She’s special and if she’s still in your life, you should take time to thank her for all she’s done.
We’re taking a look at the last song for the week. It’s a classic from Lynyrd Skynyrd! “Simple Man”. Sure, at first listen it sounds a little rebellious and not as all about Mom as you would hope for. But actually, it touches on a lot of emotions we have as we get older. Mom was always there for us growing up. Teaching us, caring for us, and showering us with love. As we get older we kind of break away from our parents in a way to start our own life.
But in this tune, it’s beautiful that Mom sits the child down to explain how to grow and develop and be a good person. It doesn’t mean that we don’t care about Mom anymore as we age, but rather, we are thankful that Mom taught us all those lessons and shared with us what it means to be a good man.
It’s a Lynyrd Skynyrd classic and there’s no denying why. It’s such an emotional tune with so much heart and passion. Plus it’s got a rocking solo and some great lyrics. “Follow your heart….and nothing else.” A great life lesson. This Mom surely wants the best for her son as most mothers do. It’s easy to hear the love in this song. Plus you can’t help but sing along because it’s so catchy.
For this Mother’s Day, maybe you can show Mom that you’re following the lyrics of this song. And in fact are a good grown adult with a heart of gold. I’m sure she’d be very happy with that!
Take a listen!
