World Sumo Coming To NJ This Sunday
When World Championship Sumo comes to the Prudential Center in Newark on Sunday, one of the participants will be Abdelrahman “Sandstorm” Shalan, who is originally from Egypt but now lives here in New Jersey in Clifton.
Wait.
A sumo wrestler from Egypt?
This is starting to get really confusing.
I don’t know about you, but my knowledge of sumo wrestling is limited.
Make that VERY limited.
I know the wrestlers are big.
Make that VERY big, with some of them tipping the scales at 400+ pounds.
I also know that the sport as we know it now goes back to the 1600’s in Japan, so there is a lot of history and tradition involved.
Take it from me, there is a LOT to learn about this fascinating sport that combines size, power, and technique.

The 31-year-old has also competed in MMA for the Rizin promotion and recently coached the Egyptian Sumo team at the 2022 World Games.
Sandstorm joined Jim Monaghan on the WDHA Morning Jolt to talk about how he got into sumo, this weekend’s event, and the story behind his nickname “Sandstorm.”
5 Fun Things To Do With Your Dog For Valentine's Day
ntNo one will love you like your dog! TRUTH! It’s Terrie Carr, and the beauty of life with a dog is they want nothing from you except love (and maybe food!) So why not spend some extra love time with them on the day of love…….Valentine’s Day!
Our pups give us so much- loyalty, love, companionship, and of course an ear and a paw when we are having a crappy day. They are the true definition of love. I can’t remember a period of my life without a dog. From as far back as I can remember, I have always had the love and companionship of a dog. I was also one of those kids who had to pet all the dogs and took home strays and hid puppies under my bed! (True story) .
How to Spend Valentine’s Day with Your Dog
Valentine’s Day is a day of love and whether or not you have a significant other to spend it with, making time for our loyal companions should be key! Why not? They give us so much love, it’s the least we can do.
I picked out a few of my favorite things to do with Rosie in this story- Food, treats, locations ….really basic and really “LOVE-LY”. It’s a great tribute to our furry friends who love us so much and ask for little in return. The true meaning of LOVE for sure.
And if you are looking for true love, don’t forget to visit our WDHA Rock N’ Ruff page with many great pups looking for true love too! Here are a few that are still available to win your heart forever……..
