The Struggling Yankees Have Really Been Exposed
It’s really quite simple – the struggling Yankees have been exposed over the past three weeks.
It may seem kind of silly to talk about a team with one of the best records in baseball as “struggling” but the numbers don’t lie.
Struggling Yankees By the Numbers
They’ve lost four series in a row, 9 of their last 12 games, and there are holes popping up everywhere you look.
Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo are both hurt. Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu have looked lethargic and disinterested. Opposing base runners are exploiting Jose Trevino behind the plate.
Their best option at first base right now is rookie Ben Rice.
Oh sure, the Yankees will still make the playoffs, and it wouldn’t be a shock at all for them to win the American League East.
But with Anthony Volpe the only steady player in the infield right now, come the trade deadline (July 31), the Yankees could have a completely different look to their infield.
The Knicks Are All In
Following the Boston Celtics 18 championship last week, the Knicks didn’t even wait till this week’s draft to make a couple of HUGE moves.
The trade for Mikel Bridges this week turned them into the Nova Knicks now, with Bridges joining three of his former Villanova NCAA championship teammates.
In the process, they traded away five first-round picks, four of them unprotected.
And they then went out and signed OG Anunoby to a huge contract extension.
It is definitely win now mode for the Knicks. And if they do win, you go, Hey, yay for us. And if they don’t,
wow, they’ve really mortgaged the future on this one.
But this was a long time coming. They kept acquiring picks, acquiring picks.
A couple of years ago, they tried to get Donovan Mitchell. They couldn’t get it done. They were waiting for that one big player to overwhelm a team and say, listen, we’re putting all our chips in the center here.
