Meet the Yankee Who Saved Brian Cashman’s Job
To hear Yankees fans talk, general manager Brian Cashman‘s job should have been terminated years ago.
After all, when you have the kind of talent that the Yankees traditionally have, plus the seemingly limitless financial resources at his disposal, this is a team that should be competing for a championship every year.
But the reality is far different.
Brian Cashman
The Yankees haven’t won the World Series since 2009 which, for a fanbase that treats the Fall Classic as if it’s a right of birth, feels like an eternity.
They didn’t make the postseason in 2023, they were swept by the Astros in the American League Championship series in 2022, they were knocked out of the Wild Card round by the Red Sox in 2021….
We could go on, but you get the idea.
With Juan Soto a free-agent-to-be having an MVP-like season, and Aaron Judge having an even better season than Soto, everyone is at a loss as so how this team isn’t running away with the American League East.
So heading into the trade deadline, fans wanted THE BIG DEAL to happen.
And it actually may have, although no one knew it at the time.
The addition of reliever Mark Leiter Jr is a nice touch, and pitcher Enyel de los Santos may yield some dividends, but the trade for Jazz Chisholm Jr has had an impact that no one really saw coming.
Jazz Chisholm Jr
In just four games with the Bombers, Chisholm has 7 hits (including 4 home runs), and has scored 6 runs.
With the ability to play multiple positions, literally overnight he has energized the team with his speed and overall athleticism.
The one concern you might have is his ability to stay healthy, but given what we’ve seen in what is admittedly a very small sample, Chisholm has been able to take some of the heat off Brian Cashman for the time being.
