Governor Phil Murphy shared several new announcements for the State of New Jersey today (May 24) during his COVID-19 briefing.
The statewide indoor mask mandate as well as the requirement for maintaining six feet of social distancing in indoor and outdoor settings will be lifted on May 28.
Every business can continue to require social distancing and masks for employees, customers, and guests if they choose to do so. Per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), masks will continue to be required in select facilities such as child care centers, schools, health care settings, airplanes, among others.
“The steps we’ve announced today are the clearest signs of our commitment to carefully and deliberately reopening our state,” Murphy shared to Twitter. “We continue to trend in the right direction with every indicator and our vaccination numbers have increased dramatically over the last two weeks.”
Effective June 4, the state will remove all indoor gathering limits and lift the 30% limit on large indoor venues with a fixed seating capacity of 1,000 or greater.
