All Mixed Up – A New Album From the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Dion
It feels like 1969 all over again – in addition to recent releases from the Beatles and Rolling Stones, there’s a new Jimi Hendrix Experience album, and new music from Dion on today’s All Mixed Up.
The Hendrix album is of particular interest.
Recorded in August 1967 at the Hollywood Bowl where the Experience was opening for AM hit makers the Mamas and Papas, they were still largely unknown in the United States. While their first album had already been released in England, it wouldn’t come out in America for another week or so.
Hendrix had already appeared at the Monterey Pop Festival in June, and had briefly opened for the Monkees on their 1967 summer tour, but it’s safe to say that no one in attendance that night at the Bowl were there to see Jimi.
And like the Monkees’ shows, the audience wasn’t ready to experience the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
