Jersey Magazine 11-14-21
Each week on the Jersey Magazine we pick topics of local interest to our listeners.
Having just passed Veterans Day, Jim Monaghan has two guests on this morning’s show. Mikie Sherrill is the Congressional Representative for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District and served in the United States Navy. Stacy Taggart is the Executive Director for the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation in Holmdel.
As a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and a former U.S. Navy officer, Mikie Sherrill brings a very unique perspective to her role as the U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district, a position she has held since 2019. Ms. Sherrill and Jim Monaghan touch on a variety of topics including veterans’ mental health issues, the importance of bipartisan politics, and two upcoming projects she is a part of.
The Thanksgiving Thank You note program launched on Veterans Day and will end with delivery of the notes to veterans by Ms. Sherrill’s team in time for Thanksgiving. Through this drive, Rep. Sherrill is asking residents of NJ-11, particularly students, to write the Thank Yous to show our appreciation for the dedication and bravery of NJ-11’s military veteran community and to share good-will as the holiday season approaches.
Residents of the 11th District are invited to drop off their cards and notes to Rep. Sherrill’s District Office in Parsippany, now through Monday, November 22, 2021. The cards will be distributed to veterans throughout New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District in time for Thanksgiving. Full details are here on Rep. Sherrill’s website.
The second veteran-related project is Trees For Troops, held once again in conjunction with Cerbo’s Greenhouse and Garden Center in Parsippany. WDHA will be at Cerbo’s on Sunday December 5th broadcasting live from 11 AM – 1 PM for their annual “load the truck” event.
Sarah Taggart is the Executive Director of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation in Holmdel. The museum is committed to sharing the experiences of the Vietnam War Era and its enduring legacy with future generations.
The Memorial recognizes the valor of New Jersey’s Veterans and the sacrifices of their families and communities, and encourages learning by exploring the Vietnam War Era through inclusive and objective exhibitions.

COACH SHEETS’ RIDE IN – Jeremy Sheetinger is the head baseball coach at Georgia Gwinnett College where he led the Grizz Gang to the 2021 NAIA National Championship. His weekly “fire me up” tweet every Thursday may, on the surface, be geared toward his fellow baseball coaches, but his motivational message can easily be applied to the classroom, workplace, and your personal relationships. This week, Coach Sheets talks about bringing a community together, coming to the realization that we’re never a finished product, and learn from each other.
