Ever since 2013, The Warning has been making waves in the music industry from Mexico all the way to America. This Mexican rock group is made up of the Villarreal Vélez sisters: Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra. All three sisters sing vocals, and have Daniela on lead guitar, Paulina on drums, and Alejandra on bass guitar. They all started playing music at a very young age and before they were even ten years old, they decided to start their very own band together. They started posting YouTube videos of them playing music in 2010. They did not start gaining momentum until 2014, when they released their cover of “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. This video became an instant online hit, as rock fans everywhere were amazed at how girls who weren’t even fifteen years old yet could play with such skills. Today, this video has over twenty-five million views.
Due to that cover video’s success, The Warning gained enough support to raise the money needed to record their 2015 EP Escape the Mind. This EP included some of their biggest songs such as “Take Me Down,” “Eternal Love,” Fade Away,” and more. Escape the Mind not only provided them with more recognition, but with more opportunities as well. The Villarreal Vélez sisters were able to meet producers, star on popular talk shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show, attend music training programs at colleges, and give TEDx Talks at universities.
In 2017, The Warning released their first full-length studio recorded album titled XXI Century Blood. This album featured some of their most popular songs including “When I’m Alone,” and “Survive.” They won several awards for the music video for the album’s title track and were even offered the chance to open for The Killers. Over the next couple of years, they performed at more and more major music festivals, including Rock al Parque. This event is the biggest rock music festival event in Latin America that has been taking place annually in Columbia ever since 1995. They were invited to perform at this festival after the release of their second album Queen of the Murder Scene (2018).
The sisters signed a record label deal in 2020 with Lava Records, to which they will get to release five albums with the label. This deal provided them with fantastic opportunities to gain even more traction in the music industry. For example, the first album that they released 2022 through Lava Records, Error, instantly became their biggest success yet. This album featured some of their most well-known songs ever such as “Choke,” “Money,” Disciple,” “Eveolve,” “23,” and more. The song “Money” was their first song to ever land on a Billboard music chart, landing within the top 40 of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. That same year, The Warning started touring different countries such as the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan; all while also performing at even more music festivals and opening for popular rock groups such as Guns N’ Roses, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, and Three Days Grace.
Their fourth album, Keep Me Fed was released in June 2024. This album did not differ from their last few and continued to land songs on charts and gain them even more success. Some of the most famous songs from this album include “S!CK,” “Six Feet Deep,” “Burnout,” “Qué Más Quieres,” “Automatic Sun,” “Hell You Call a Dream,” and many more. The band was featured on popular talk shows such as the Jimmy Kimmel Show and did another European tour after this album’s release. The Villarreal Vélez sisters continue to prove time and again that while they may still be a relatively newer band, they won’t waste any time in making sure that people will know their names and how talented these rock stars truly are.
