ChaptGPT and Artificial Intelligence are big buzzwords right now.
Much like the days of "robots are going to take over everyone's job," there are concerns that all this new technology will eventually render us humans expendable.
Students are using some form of AI to write their papers. Employees facing a deadline are asking ChatGPT for help.
The problem is that while it's great to ask for 300 words on a topic and get a result almost instantly, those results are often highly suspect.
With that in mind, I have come up with 4 crucial reasons why you should avoid using ChatGPT right now.
My Artificial Intelligence Profile
Somehow, I got on an email list from a company that used AI to come up with this career profile on me.
Jim Monaghan is a versatile and experienced professional with a diverse background in the sports and media industries.
With a strong passion for baseball, Jim has excelled as a baseball coach and sports director, showcasing his expertise in advertising, broadcast media, radio producing, and voice acting.
Additionally, Jim has demonstrated his creativity and technical skills as a contributing writer and music director, utilizing HTML, Photoshop, and social media to enhance his work.
Currently, Jim is interested in pursuing a role as a production director, leveraging his previous engagement with Fordham University in the Bronx, New York.
With his extensive experience and skills, Jim is well-suited for positions in the sports, media, and entertainment industries.
This is your basic "padded" resume which a prospective new employer could spot a mile away.
While my skillset does include HTML and Photoshop, I have never really done advertising, so I wouldn't say I have any "expertise" in that area, as it says above.
Also, though I have done radio production in the past, it was not something I did in college, and I have never pursued "a role as a production director."
Nonetheless, rather than just dismiss the new technology with a wave of the hand, I decided to give ChatGPT a try, using the free version.
"ChatGPT - Give Me 200 Words On 'Jim Monaghan Radio'"
I decided to see what ChatGPT could come up with, and since I know myself pretty well, I figured it would be pretty easy to judge just how accurate the results would be.
Jim Monaghan, a renowned figure in the radio industry, has left an indelible mark on the airwaves.
With a career spanning decades, Monaghan has been a stalwart presence, captivating audiences with his distinctive voice and unparalleled passion for broadcasting.
His journey began in the early days of radio, where he honed his craft and developed a deep understanding of the medium's power to inform, entertain, and connect.
As a radio host, Jim Monaghan exudes warmth and authenticity, effortlessly engaging listeners with his witty banter, insightful commentary, and infectious enthusiasm for music.
Whether hosting a morning show or an evening program, he has a knack for creating a sense of community, fostering a loyal following of devoted fans who tune in faithfully to hear his latest musings and song selections.
Beyond his on-air charisma, Monaghan is also celebrated for his contributions behind the scenes, mentoring aspiring broadcasters and advocating for the continued relevance of radio in the digital age.
His commitment to excellence and dedication to his craft serve as an inspiration to colleagues and listeners alike, cementing his legacy as a true radio icon. In an ever-changing media landscape, Jim Monaghan remains a beacon of integrity, creativity, and enduring passion for the art of radio broadcasting.
First of all, you lost me with "his journey began in the early days of radio."
Broadcast radio has been around for well over 100 years. I assure you that I wasn't there when Marconi was fooling around with wireless telegraphy in the 1890s.
Second, consider the phrases "distinctive voice" and "his on-air charisma."
I have always considered my "radio voice" good enough to get the job done, but certainly not "distinctive."
There have been many adjectives used to describe me. "Charismatic" has never been one of them.
Third, while "beacon of integrity" sounds great, where the heck did that come from?
Notice that there are literally no specifics given about my radio career.
I mean, I've been here at WDHA since Thanksgiving weekend of 1998, so you would think a WDHA mention or two would be in there somewhere.
"ChatGPT - Give Me 200 Words On 'Jim Monaghan Baseball'"
So then I decided to see what ChatGPT could do about my baseball work. The results are questionable at best.
Jim Monaghan's name is synonymous with the rich tapestry of baseball lore, his deep-rooted connection to the sport extending far beyond the broadcast booth.
With a career spanning decades, Monaghan has left an indelible mark on the baseball world, his passion and expertise serving as a guiding light for fans and players alike.
As a broadcaster, Jim Monaghan's velvety voice has narrated countless memorable moments on the diamond, painting vivid pictures of triumphs, heartaches, and everything in between.
From the crack of the bat to the roar of the crowd, he has masterfully captured the essence of America's pastime, enriching the baseball experience for generations of listeners.
Yet, Monaghan's impact transcends the confines of the press box.
As a historian, he possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the game, regaling audiences with tales of baseball's luminaries and unsung heroes. His insights into strategy, statistics, and the human drama of the sport have earned him widespread acclaim and respect within the baseball community.
Moreover, Jim Monaghan's unwavering dedication to the game extends beyond the airwaves, as he has actively supported youth programs, charitable initiatives, and grassroots efforts to preserve baseball's heritage.
His enduring love affair with the sport serves as a testament to its timeless allure, reminding us all why baseball continues to hold a special place in the hearts of millions around the world.
I don't even know where to start with this mess.
"Velvety voice?" Hardly.
"Narrated countless memorable moments on the diamond?" Ummm...I broadcast a few high school games, and one season each of college baseball, and minor league baseball.
While it was certainly enjoyable, I don't think any of it would be described as "memorable."
Meanwhile, there are literally no specifics.
Nothing about my high school coaching experience, nothing about my time with the Newark Bears.
In addition, there's nothing on my side hack of baseball training or baseball glove repair (I'm pretty good at that, if I may say so myself).
"ChatGPT - Give Me 200 Words On the History of WDHA"
Undaunted, I decided to try another area that you and I both know - WDHA.
With the first sentence, you know this is completely wrong.
WDHA, standing for "World's Dairy Hair Association," has a rich history entrenched in the dairy industry. Established in the early 20th century, it began as a small collective of dairy farmers focused on breeding cattle with superior milk production and desirable hair traits. Over time, its scope expanded beyond mere breeding to encompass research, education, and advocacy.
In the mid-20th century, WDHA played a pivotal role in the development of advanced breeding techniques, such as artificial insemination and genetic selection, revolutionizing dairy farming practices worldwide.
By the late 20th century, WDHA had evolved into a globally recognized authority on dairy genetics, providing invaluable resources and expertise to farmers striving for excellence in their herds.
I will spare you the rest. Suffice to say that it had absolutely nothing to do with the radio station we all know and love.
"ChatGPT - Give Me 500 Words On WDHA Radio"
Maybe that last one was my fault. Let's add "radio" to the prompt and make it 500 words in length, and see what ChatGPT can come up with.
WDHA Radio, serving the tri-state area with its call sign standing for "Dover, Hackettstown, and Allentown," has a rich and vibrant history that spans over five decades.
Since its inception in the early 1970s, WDHA has solidified its place as a cornerstone of the New Jersey radio landscape, earning a dedicated following and a reputation for excellence in music programming, community engagement, and cultural impact.
Founded by a group of local entrepreneurs, WDHA emerged during a time of significant change in the radio industry.
As FM radio gained popularity and began to eclipse AM, WDHA seized the opportunity to carve out its niche by focusing on rock, alternative, and classic hits — a format that resonated deeply with its audience.
With its powerful signal reaching listeners across northern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and southern New York, WDHA quickly became a household name, beloved for its eclectic music selection and dynamic on-air personalities.
From its humble beginnings in a small studio in Dover, WDHA expanded its reach and influence, eventually relocating to larger facilities in Cedar Knolls.
Throughout the decades, the station has undergone numerous transformations, adapting to technological advancements and shifting listener preferences while remaining true to its core mission of delivering quality music and engaging content.
At the heart of WDHA's success are its dedicated team of DJs, who bring passion, energy, and expertise to the airwaves each day. From iconic voices like Jim Monaghan and Terrie Carr to rising stars such as Mike Anthony, WDHA's on-air talent has become synonymous with the station's identity, fostering a sense of connection and familiarity with listeners.
Beyond its music programming, WDHA has played a pivotal role in supporting local communities and charitable causes.
Through partnerships with organizations like the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and various animal shelters, WDHA has helped raise awareness and funds for important issues impacting its listeners.
The station's commitment to community service extends to its coverage of local events, concerts, and festivals, providing a platform for artists and organizations to reach a wider audience.
As the media landscape continues to evolve in the digital age, WDHA has embraced new technologies and platforms to stay connected with its audience.
In addition to traditional radio broadcasting, WDHA offers live streaming on its website and mobile app, allowing listeners to tune in from anywhere in the world.
The station also maintains an active presence on social media, engaging with fans and sharing exclusive content, interviews, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of life at WDHA.
Looking ahead, WDHA remains committed to its mission of entertaining, informing, and inspiring its audience. With a legacy built on passion, creativity, and community, WDHA Radio continues to thrive as a trusted source of music, news, and entertainment for generations to come.
Whether through the airwaves or online, WDHA's enduring influence leaves an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of listeners, embodying the spirit of rock 'n' roll and the power of radio to unite and uplift communities.
Once again, the first sentence is completely wrong.
The call letters stand for "Drexel Hill Associates."
But clearly, going from 200 to 500 words, and adding radio to the prompt at least got some information that was right.
At any rate, before you let your kids submit something conjured up by AI, or you decide to let automation put together a work project or update your resume, think twice.
And maybe think a third time, too.
