Why Playing Video Games Could Actually Be Good For You
Whether you’re an avid gamer or just play occasionally, there’s no denying that playing Video Games is good for you! I mean, so is exercise and that probably has more benefits, but I found this info interesting.
There was a study done by researchers in Japan where they tracked the mental health of people who were able to play video games during the pandemic. The other side, so to speak, was those who couldn’t get their hands on consoles because there were shortages and it was difficult to purchase one.
The results? Well, those who were able to play games on the Nintendo Switch or Sony’s PlayStation 5 saw reductions in psychological distress. They even had a boost in life satisfaction. That’s right, they were more satisfied in life!! Those who were in the group that weren’t able to play had some struggles because they couldn’t connect with online players. The Japanese researchers said that it seems like video gaming seems to do more good than harm!
That’s so fun to hear because gaming can be a cool outlet. Whether you’re like me and are into Retro games or you love battling online co-op style on PS5 or Xbox, games can be a good way to blow off steam, help your brain solve puzzles, or just enjoy some laughs and excitement.
I love playing with my kids, who are at that age where they’re getting into gaming and enjoying it. My wife loves a good Mario game, so the whole family can play on the Switch or we can have a date night of just trying to beat a game. It’s a unique way to spend time together and isn’t just the same old, same old. The fact that it has added bonuses is just icing on the cake.
I grew up playing video games from a young age and although I have a bunch of quirks, I wouldn’t say it hurt me. It helped me make decisions, problem-solve, and even look hard for things in my life.
So go dust off that old Atari or NES and have some fun this weekend!
