Jersey Magazine 2-19-23
This week, Jim Monaghan welcomes back Bob Kendrick, the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and has a conversation with Lt. Colonel Lisa Jaster, US Army Reserve.
February is Black History Month and we are thrilled to welcome Bob Kendrick back to the Jersey Magazine. As president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Bob is one of the leading authorities on the Negro Leagues.
This month, the MLB Network launched a new three-part series called “Undeniable.” Narrated by Bob, it’s aimed at a younger audience that might not be fully aware of the role of Negro League players in the history of baseball.
Additionally, there is a lot going on here in New Jersey this year including the Somerset Patriots joining “The Nine” initiative, and the renovation of historic Hinchcliffe Stadium in Paterson where the New Jersey Jackals will play their home games starting in 2023.
Lisa Jaster is among the most interesting guests we’ve had yet on the show. A graduate of West Point, Lisa served tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan and was the recipient of a Bronze Star.
Currently a Lt. Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, Lisa was the first Army Reserve woman to graduate from Army Ranger School.
Lisa’s new book Delete the Adjective – A Soldier’s Adventures In Ranger School, is a fascinating look at what happens when you stop defining yourself by categories (Lisa’s “deleted adjectives” include “married, white, female, atypical, mother, middle-aged”) and attack the challenges in front of you.
This week on Rock N’ Ruff, we bring back Fred and Ethel! They have actually been featured before and are still looking for their forever home.
They are a brother and sister bonded pair who have been together their entire lives. They are around 8 years old, boxer/pit mixes and absolutely love ALL people.
They are very well behaved and have the best manners. Fred and Ethel are the sweetest, most affectionate pups and love attention and butt scratches. They love playing in the backyard and Ethel is the best at fetch. They will let you take the ball right out of their mouths so they can play again and again.
Fred and Ethel are larger dogs, but are very calm with visitors and so gentle! They have also done great with kids and are very eager to please.
For info, on meeting these two great dogs email [email protected].
COACH SHEETS’ RIDE IN – Jeremy Sheetinger is the head baseball coach at Georgia Gwinnett College where he led the Grizz Gang to the 2021 NAIA National Championship. His weekly “fire me up” tweet every Thursday may, on the surface, be geared toward his fellow baseball coaches, but his motivational message can easily be applied to the classroom, workplace, and your personal relationships. This week, Coach Sheets offers up a challenge – take a few mins & send THREE people a text of thanks, love, appreciation. See what the results are.
