Finally! A Florida Man Story That Has A Happy Ending
There aren’t too many Florida Man stories that have a happy ending, but this one certainly qualifies, even if it took more than three years for that resolution to happen.
There’s nothing quite as heartbreaking as having a pet wander off of your property and not being able to find it.
In this case, the pet most likely wasn’t going to answer to its name, and even if it did, odds are that it was hidden in some tall grass or moving too slowly to notice it.
Or maybe it was simply looking for Terrie Carr to help find its forever home.
FLORIDA MAN STRIKES AGAIN!
DATELINE -Putnam County, where sheriff’s officers cornered a desperado they’d been looking for for three and a half years.
A fugitive that had escaped in 2020 recaptured while trying to cross a state highway.
That fugitive? A 60-pound tortoise that had wandered away from its home back in April of 2020.
The officers knew when they cornered the African tortoise that it was an escaped pet, because the police report said it “likes people and head pats.” I’m not sure I’d be walking up to a tortoise this size to pat its head, but listen.
The authorities opted to turn it over to Florida’s Wildest Animal Refuge, which is a nonprofit that quickly discovered, hey, this thing’s been out in the wild for a couple of years now.
That area of Florida has weeds, grasses, and flowers, which are plentiful, so the tortoise had plenty to eat, even though it was a little beat up from being outside for so long.
How did they reunite it with the owner?
Well, someone remembered seeing a story that had been posted on Facebook back in April of 2020 saying that our pet tortoise wandered off from the backyard. Can you help us find it?
Well, again, it took about three and a half years. How far did it go? Not very far in three and a half years. 5 miles.
