Florida Man Finds a Whole New Way To Hack the Prescription System
In the Old Days, someone looking to get prescription medication illegally might try to snatch a prescription pad from a doctor’s desk.
In 2024, Florida Man has found a whole new way to hack into the system.
FLORIDA MAN STRIKES AGAIN!
DATELINE – Mineola, New York. And the Saga of Florida man Devin Magarian, who allegedly hacked doctors’ accounts and created fictitious patients in order to sell millions of pain meds on the black market.
According to authorities from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York division, this is the equivalent of stealing a prescription pad from a doctor’s office 20 years ago.
Well, this defendant and his associates allegedly took that template and updated it using a very complex and technologically sophisticated drug operation. What they were doing involved runners who picked up the drugs from pharmacies on Long island and across the United States, using these compromised accounts to issue and fill tens of thousands of narcotics prescriptions.
Magarian was caught when he allegedly sold 630 oxycodone pills to an undercover agent for more than $14,000 after a pharmacy in Great Neck, New York, noticed a suspicious pickup and called law enforcement.
Investigators said Magarian flooded unsuspecting doctors with text messages to bury notifications about their accounts being compromised. A bot then created fake patient names, and by the time a doctor realized that he or she had been hacked, it was too late.
One authority said that in one weekend, 18,500 scripts were issued. Magarian allegedly was advertising this whole thing on the Telegram app, and he even wore the Telegram logo around his neck.
He allegedly used millions of dollars in profits to support a lavish lifestyle in Kissimmee, Florida.
The defense attorney’s logic
You’ve got to love what his defense attorney said – “He has no criminal record. First time being in trouble with the law, and we are going to exonerate him.”
That remains to be seen.
By the way, Magarian’s parents offered to put up bail, and the judge said no way.
