FLORIDA MAN STRIKES AGAIN!
DATELINE – Macclenny, Florida, and the Saga of Florida Man Demetrius Burnett, a man with multiple arrest warrants who was found last week concealing himself in the backseat of a stolen car in the parking lot of a gas station.
But there’s SO much more to this story than this.
Before everything that happened at the gas station a few days ago, Burnett’s alleged crime spree started three days earlier. There was a car that was stolen out of an anytime fitness parking lot that had a firearm inside of it.
A few hours later, that same vehicle was spotted with Burnett behind the wheel. When Burnett pulled over and a sheriff’s office deputy started asking questions, Burnett took off running. He tossed the stolen car keys, lost his shoes, somehow dodged a police taser, and eluded a canine team.
The firearm that had been in the stolen vehicle was missing when the cops went back to check, but they did find the magazine from the weapon.
72 hours later, Burnett was spotted again, this time in yet a different stolen car hiding out in the backseat of the gas station.
In between the car stolen from the fitness center and the gas station, there were four other car thefts that Burnett is a suspect in. So fearing that Burnett would flee, deputies positioned vehicles around his car, the one that Burnett was in. At which point, Burnett decided to try to play bumper cars.
But that didn’t work out.
Eventually, a K-9 officer got involved. According to the arrest report, all of the vehicles involved in the gas station parking lot bumper car struggle suffered at least $1,000 in damage.
All of the events going on, Burnett is charged with aggravated battery, battery on a police animal, trespassing, grand theft of a motor vehicle, seven counts of aggravated assault on an officer, four counts of criminal mischief, seven counts of resisting an officer with violence.
Oh, and to top it all off, Burnett was cited for driving without a driver’s license.
