If you were born in 1974, you're turning 50 this year, congratulations on reaching the half-century mark!
You have a lot of company - here are 5 random things that are also turning 50 in 2024.
How many of these do you still use in your everyday life?
Post-It Notes
Post-It Notes are literally everywhere. On your refrigerator. On your computer screen. On your office walls.

You can thank a guy named Spencer Silver for the invention. He was a chemist working for the 3M Company when he came up with an adhesive that could be repeatedly repositioned.
Rubik's Cube
Rubik's Cube is the brainchild of Ernő Rubik who was working at the Department of Interior Design at the Academy of Applied Arts and Crafts in Budapest when he designed a structure that had all these moving parts but would not fall apart.
It was during the process of trying to figure out how to get it back to its original state that he realized he had come up with this amazing puzzle game that has tortured people for half a century.
Bar Codes
A guy from New Jersey named Joe Woodland came up with the idea, and drew it in the sand while vacationing in Florida. The first bar code was scanned on June 26th, 1974, and then completely revolutionized shopping.
Bailey's Irish Cream
Unlike the Rubik's Cube, Bailey's Irish Cream wasn't invented by a guy named Bailey.
As a matter of fact, though Bailey's was the first Irish cream liqueur, the guy who came up with it wasn't even Irish. Rather, it was the creation of a guy named Tom Jago from England.
Made of cream, cocoa, and Irish whiskey, it tastes great in coffee, or on its own. Checking in at 17% ABV (the standard beer is between 4% and 7% ABV), starting your day with a little Bailey's in your morning coffee might not be a good idea if you're handling any heavy machinery.
The Heimlich Maneuver
Dr. Henry Heimlich described it in an article in 1974. It started as a theory, and it turned out it worked really well. Before that, the advice was to smack a choking person on the back over and over again.
And one more thing turning 50 in 2024
The Meow Mix Jingle hits the half-century mark. I apologize now because this stupid jingle will be in your head all day.
10 Awesome Rock Albums Turning 10 in 2024
Rockers! Man, 10 years flies by! It's hard to believe these 10 killer rock albums are turning 10 in 2024. But they are!
Now, let me start by saying, there were a lot of really solid releases that came out in 2014, and I left a few of my faves off the list to get to 10, (I never say BEST- there is no BEST, just my opinion of favorites, yours may be different). These lists serve as a reminder of two things.
1. How much amazing music there is to listen to. AND
2. How fast time flies by!
I'll be rocking a few from this list all week on the WDHA Coffee Break at 10:50a, - make sure you tune in!
It's easy to do-
Listen anywhere- Listen Live on WDHAFM.COM
OR on the WDHA APP- Download The DHA App
I also tried to keep this "10 rock Releases celebrating 10th Anniversary" list diverse with lots of guitars, female rockers included, metal artists, and the classic bands that have shaped our past. I interviewed a lot of these artists too during the album cycles for these records 10 years ago, (Judas Priest, Sixx AM, Chevelle, Zakk Wylde) and it's awesome to see that just about all are still active. It's also incredible that so many of these bands have or are getting ready to release new tunes and new albums this year- (Seether, Slash, The Pretty Reckless, Judas Priest)

Here's to another 10 years (and more) of amazing rock releases! Some great new rockers to check out? Priest, Mick Mars, Ace Frehley (who gave us Space Invader 10 years ago too!) , Green Day, Black Crowes just to name a few...
Rock On,
Terrie Carr
The Pretty Reckless - Going To Hell
Released on 3/12-2014- "Going To Hell" is the second record from "The Pretty Reckless", and really cemented Taylor and the band as one of rock radio's future stars. We got THREE number one Billboard singles from this powerhouse release including- "Heaven Knows", "Follow Me Down" and "Messed Up World", and it was recorded in Hoboken New Jersey!
Foo Fighters- Sonic Highways
I LOVE "Sonic Highways" from the Foo's. LOVE. It's such and underrated masterpiece. And I was obsessed with the HBO Documentary, seriously, I watched it at least 50 times. It's the bands eighth record and Dave traveled to eight cities to record eight songs and get a feel, flavor and ties to each cities musical history. My favorite song of the release features the magic of Joe Walsh. "Outside" is a masterpiece.
Black Label Society- Catacombs Of The Black Vatican
Released in April of 2014, it's the 9th from BLS and there is something about Zakk's vocals on this one that really hit me.
"My Dying Time", "Angel Of Mercy", "Heart Of Darkness" , It mixes everything we love about BLS. Heavy, Groove, with a Bluesy, real feel, that elevates Zakk and the band to a new level. I love this record so much.
Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators- World On Fire
The second album with the mighty Myles and the Conspirators, with songs like "World On Fire", "Bent To Fly" and the amazing "Beneath The Savage Sun" inspired by the plight of the slaughter of Elephants and a partnership with IFAW (International Fund For Animal Welfare) , Slash stopped by WDHA to promote this album and the title track gave the band a Billboard number one rock track.
Godsmack- 1000 Horsepower
This is one of my favorite "Godsmack" records, because they really came into their own as a no holds barred, straight ahead rock band on this one, their 6th. While still heavy, they really stretched their boundaries on songs out of their traditional sound like "Something Different", and "Living In The Gray".
Seether- Isolate and Medicate
Released in July of 2014, Seether continued their path of writing songs that are custom, made for rock radio on their 6th record- "Isolate and Medicate". With "Words As weapons", "Same Damn Life", and "Save Today", Seether adds to their catalog of active rockclassics on this one and I can't wait to see them at WDHA's Rock The Rock Fest 2024- April 25th at The Prudential Center.
AC/DC- Rock Or Bust
No matter, when, where or how......whenever we get a new AC/DC record, life is good! No explanation needed.
Sixx AM- Modern Vintage
I HOPE "Sixx AM" comes back in some form- I think James Michael is one of the most underrated people in rock music. Songwriting, Producing, Vocals and band fronting. And of course Nikki and DJ Asba- The third Sixx AM record to me was the bands best without a book to promote, and focusing on a sound that highlighted their musical heroes- A homage to classic rockers like ELO and Queen. I loved the songwriting and whole vibe of the record. And The Cars cover is beautiful.
Chevelle- La Gargola
Chevelle is sooooooo underrated. Criminally underrated if you ask me. La Gargola is the bands seventh studio album and is one of the best bangers of 2014. Don't know them? Download their catalog and see them live.
Judas Priest - Redeemer of Souls
Released in July of 2014, I was lucky enough to host some national radio and DVD specials for the band when this record came out. One we were not sure we would get! It was the first without K.K. Downing and introduced Richie Faulkner to the Priest fans. I am a self proclaimed "Priest Maniac" and this record knocked my head off and there was no way I was leaving it off of my list.
