DATELINE – Port Charlotte and the Saga of Florida man Coty Clements.
Let’s set the scene. It’s in a Walmart in Port Charlotte, and it involves a restroom and a lost cell phone.
Have you ever lost your cell phone? Hopefully you got it back if you did, because someone did the right thing.
Have you ever found a cell phone? Hopefully you did the right thing. You gave it to the authorities. Maybe a lost and found where you were, brought it to a police station.
Either way, you did the right thing.
What did Florida Man Coty Clemens do?
He found someone’s cell phone in a Walmart bathroom and called 911 to make a bomb threat.
Well, when 911 called back, Clemens answered the phone and said, “Tik toc, tic toc,” and hung up.
There are SO many things going on in this story.
Well, now the authorities have the number. They’re able to track down the owner who said, oh, I lost my phone. I was in Walmart.
So the police, they start going through the Walmart security footage. Lo and behold, they find footage of Clemens in the bathroom on the phone.
Florida Man’s Motivation For the Stunt
Well, he cops to what he did. He said that he decided to make a prank phone call because he had seen other people doing it on TikTok. I guess he thought he’d join in on the fun.
According to the police report, Florida Man states he regrets his decision and realizes he made a bad decision.
You think? Really?
Clements, charged with making a false report about planting a bomb or a weapon of mass destruction. That’s a second degree felony, by the way.
He was released from the county jail on $15,000 bond and has also been ordered by a judge to have no contact with any Walmarts.
He has a court arraignment on February 12h. That should be a very interesting hearing.
