Florida Man REALLY Has A Thing For Golf Carts
My listeners know how I feel about golf carts (I want one in the worst way). So when Listener George found this story, he sent it my way.
It seems that one particular Florida Man has a thing for golf carts since he’s stolen a bunch of them recently.
Florida Man and golf carts – perfect together!
FLORIDA MAN STRIKES AGAIN!
DATELINE – Summerfield and the Saga of Florida Man Jerry Lay.
He was arrested recently. This incident took place outside a senior living center, a victim telling a Marion County deputy that he had parked his blue and gray Honda golf cart in the living center’s parking lot.
And when he went out the next morning, it was gone.
That golf cart reportedly worth $15,000. Well, video surveillance showed an unknown suspect walking in the area and stealing the golf cart, driving it out of the parking lot to where a truck and trailer were parked in the roadway.
Well the deputy is watching the video and he looks at the suspect and he goes, wait, I know who that is!
The deputy wrote, “I believe him to be suspect Jerry Lay, who I am familiar with from previous golf cart thefts.”
So the deputy goes – he knows where Lay is – goes to his residence, interviews him.
During the interview, Lay said he didn’t have anything to say if it involved the theft of a golf cart because he wasn’t going to incriminate himself.
Seems that he had had this kind of issue before, including another stolen golf cart that was worth about $6,500 that ended up on Facebook Marketplace the next day, sold for about $4,000.
Well, the owner of the truck confirmed that Lay had been allowed to use the truck and he was the only one to use the vehicle. And the truck owner did confirm that Lay was in possession of the truck during the time frame of this most recent golf car theft.
But wait, there’s more
A criminal history check found that Lay has numerous guilty theft convictions, a total of nine prior guilty felony convictions.
And it’s not just golf carts.
He holds at least four previous convictions of theft and two cases of theft going out of Broward County that go as far back as 1989.
He also has a warrant for burglary out of Marion County. And yes, wait, there’s more – Lay has a suspended Florida driver’s license!
The license was suspended in 2018 and then suspended indefinitely again in, 2019.
Well, since Lay’s in jail, not having a driver’s license is probably not an issue. I do wonder, though, if the facility he’s in has any golf carts.
